Close to 20% of Goa’s shore along its 139-km-long coastline has been eroded due to a rise in sea levels and human intervention such as deforestation and urbanisation, said the Union ministry of earth sciences (MoES). While Goa may feature as the state which has the lowest percentage (19.2%) of its shore length under erosion among the 11 coastal states, the figure stood at 17% in 2014-15.
