While Sardesai succeeded in surmounting the challenge posed by his arch rival Damu Naik, the two candidates propped up in Mayem and Mandrem failed to emulate his success. Sardesai pulled in 45.8% of the total votes polled in Fatorda, defeating the BJP candidate by 1,527 votes.
