Call of the wild: Tigress grooms mother's cub
In Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Bijli (T-114) is displaying astonishing behavior by grooming the lone cub of her mother, Chhoti Tara (T-7). The tigresses Maya and Chhoti Tara had marked their territory, with Chhoti Tara taking over Maya's territory after her possible death. Chhoti Tara's daughters, Roma and Bijli, have their own territory. In January, Chhoti Tara's cub went missing, and Bijli was later seen with her own cub and the lone cub of Chhoti Tara. Bijli delivered three cubs, but two didn't survive. This behavior is rare and similar instances have been reported elsewhere.
