Kerala student ‘suicide’ triggers protest in Punjab private university
Massive protests were witnessed in Phagwara's Lovely Professional University during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday after a 21-year-old student, hailing from Kerala, committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. Though initially police officials said that a suicide note recovered from his room reflected 'personal reasons', later in the day, the police registered a case against a professor of National Institute of Technology, Calicut, on the basis of a suicide note left by the student and the statement given by his father to the police.
