Mayawati again demands caste census in UP
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati has expressed her support for the caste census conducted by the Bihar government. She has called for similar exercises to be carried out by the governments of Uttar Pradesh and at the national level. Mayawati believes that a caste census is essential for ensuring the constitutional rights of marginalized sections of society. She has criticized the BJP and Congress for attempting to weaken provisions in the Constitution that protect the rights of the poor and marginalized, such as reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Mayawati's support for the caste census is not new, as she has previously backed this demand even when raised by her political adversaries.
