New Omicron sub-variant makes it to Punjab
At a time when BA 2.75, a new sub-variant of Omicron, has turned out to be a major cause of concern for Delhi, Punjab too has a reason to worry as the sub-variant has been detected in 44 samples in July. BA 2.75 is said to have a higher transmission rate, reports Shariq Majeed. Out of positive samples, six to seven cases were from Ludhiana, state epidemiologist Dr Rajesh Bhaskar said. He said BA 2, 2.75, 4 and 5 sub-variants are circulating in the state, out of which BA 2 (original Omicron that was first detected in January) is the dominant one. BA 4 and 5 constituted 2-3% of cases.
