Of 1,000 fire hydrants in 1960s, Nagpur now has only 9
The lack of fire hydrants in Nagpur's Sitabuldi and Itwari market areas has become a pressing problem for the fire department. A recent fire in Sitabuldi resulted in the destruction of five shops. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's fire department had proposed installing fire hydrants in 2015 but has received no response to the tenders issued. Currently, there are only 29 hydrants in the city, with only nine in working condition. The lack of hydrants causes delays in refilling fire tenders and puts the city at a significant risk. The PHE department is reworking the terms and conditions of the project.
