Confronted with the challenge of safeguarding the environment, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are struggling to minimise the detrimental impact of waste on the ecosystem, due to their inability to completely treat sewage and waste generated, thus exposing the environment to toxic effects of both inorganic and biodegradable elements present in the waste.
