Grim dilemma: 3 years after first Covid-19 deaths, some churches grapple with slow decomposition
Parish churches in Goa are facing a problem as bodies in body bags from Covid-19 deaths are not decomposing as expected. Families usually ask for the bones to be exhumed and placed in a niche three years after a death, but the plastic wrapping on the bodies is slowing down decomposition. While this is not yet a large-scale issue, larger parishes with limited cemetery space are concerned. One solution suggested is to unzip or cut open the body bags and bury them again with added mud, but consultation with civil authorities is needed.
